Public beta legal notice. Effective July 3, 2026.

PitSlate is built by Apps 4 That LLC (Indiana, USA). The short version: your cooks live on your device.

On-device first

Cook plans, live cook logs, temperatures, notes, ratings, and your Pit Book history are stored in your browser's local storage on the device you use. PitSlate has no accounts and no server-side cook database in this preview. Clearing your browser data deletes your Pit Book; we cannot recover it, because we never had it. The export feature exists so you can keep your own copy.

Food-safety disclaimer

PitSlate's timing and temperature guidance is informational only — it is not a food-safety authority, and its cook plans are planning estimates, never a guarantee that food is safe or done. Safety minimums shown in the app are sourced from USDA FSIS and the FDA Food Code (poultry 165°F; ground meats 160°F; whole-muscle beef/pork/lamb 145°F plus a 3-minute rest; danger zone 40–140°F). Always verify internal temperatures with a calibrated food thermometer, and when anything in this app conflicts with USDA guidance, follow USDA. Doneness targets (like "brisket ~203°F") are labeled practitioner convention, not USDA standards.

What does touch the network

  • The optional AI Pitmaster. If you ask it a question, your question text (plus the retrieved technique cards used for grounding) is sent to our serverless endpoint and on to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the answer. We do not send your cook history, logs, or Pit Book. The free on-device coach never makes a network call.
  • Checkout. If you buy a plan, payment is handled by Stripe on Stripe's pages. We never see card numbers.
  • The optional email list. If — and only if — you type your email into a "email me my cook timeline" form and check the box, we send your email address, your general interest tags (for example: barbecue, smoker owner, weekend cook), and how you arrived here to our email service provider so we can send you what you asked for. We never send your cook logs, temperatures, notes, or Pit Book — those stay on your device. You can leave with one click from any email. If you don't enter your email, nothing is collected.
  • Fonts. Pages load two typefaces from Google Fonts, which sees standard request metadata (like your IP address) when fonts load.
  • Hosting. The site is served by Vercel, which processes standard server logs (IP, user agent) to deliver pages.

Service providers

DRAFT — pending attorney review before launch. The email service provider is being finalized (see below); this list will name it once selected.

We use a small number of processors to run PitSlate: Vercel (hosting and server logs), Stripe (payments, only if you buy), Anthropic (the optional AI Pitmaster answers), Google Fonts (typefaces), GitHub (which, during this beta, holds emails from the optional list in a private store until we finish selecting the email service provider), and an email service provider (only if you join the optional list — provider to be named at launch). Each receives only what it needs for its job, and nothing about your cooks.

Apps 4 That LLC keeps a single, unified privacy and audience policy that governs the optional email list across all of its apps. During this beta it is available as a working draft, pending attorney review: the A4T unified privacy & audience policy (draft).

Other Apps 4 That apps

PitSlate is made by Apps 4 That LLC, which builds other apps. If you join our email list and separately opt in to the second checkbox, we may occasionally tell you about other Apps 4 That apps that fit your interests, and your interest tags may be recognized across our apps to keep those messages relevant. This is a separate choice from PitSlate updates, it is off unless you check it, and you can opt out with one click at any time. We never share the content of your cooks, and we don't sell your information.

What we don't do

  • No advertising, no ad trackers, no tracking cookies, and no cross-site tracking pixels. We use Plausible Analytics for aggregate, cookie-free page and event counts only.
  • No sale of personal information. No sharing beyond the processors named above.
  • No accounts required, no location access, no camera or microphone. No email collected unless you choose to give it.

Children

PitSlate is for adults who operate smokers and grills and is not directed to children under 13.
